Investigate and document your local pollinator insects and which plants support them

This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the Level 2 badge in Gardening.

Pollination is a requirement for all fruits and many vegetables, and much of that pollination is carried out by insects. Since so much pollinator habitat has been (and continues to be) destroyed, self-interest and ethics both require that gardeners provide some habitat for their pollinators.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:

  • Research your local pollinator insects, and make a list of which plants support them by providing food, habitat and nesting sites.
  • At least some of this research should be “on the ground”, observing and recording insects and plants in your own and other local gardens.

To document your completion of the BB, provide the following:

  • List of local pollinators and their support plants
  • Photos of pollinators making use of plants in your own and other local gardens, with identification of pollinators and plants
