Multiple Saturday afternoons Sep 29 to Nov 10, at Sycamore Commons (Townsite Anglican Church)

This series of workshops, classes and demos focuses on food preservation and processing, with excursions into gardening and other homesteading topics. It will take your urban or rural homesteading to the next level, whether you’re just starting or have been doing it for years. Many sessions are hands-on and all are taught by local experts. You can attend as many classes as you wish.

This weekend aims to be zero waste and support local producers. Please help us reduce our carbon footprint by carpooling, biking, walking or using the bus to get to and from the sites.

Location

Sycamore Commons at the Townsite Anglican Church, 6310 Sycamore St. Please enter through the rear basement doors. Bus route 1 stops right outside, or across from, the church.

Class Details

Wet Felting FULL

This class will show you how to turn wool fibres into finished felt, using water, soap and the magic of your hands! You will make a piece of flat felt that you can embellish as you wish, and use as a wall-hanging, placemat or anything else you can think of.

Soap Making With Local Ingredients

Learn to make soap using the cold process method with locally sourced lard. This hands-on class will cover the basic theory and history of soapmaking, how to use lye calculators, soaping safety, and how to make individually molded soaps. All participants will leave with their own bar of soap and the knowledge and recipes to make more at home!

All participants should bring long sleeved shirts and close toed shoes. Children 14 and older are welcomed with an accompanying adult.
